On grey days, raincoats and hardshells, commonly called waterproof jackets, are designed to help protect you from precipitation. Featuring a DWR treatment to improve water repellency, their membrane consists of 2 to 3 layers providing different levels of waterproofness and breathability. While hardshells come with sealed seams to keep the drips out and durable fabrics to withstand the rigours of skiing or mountaineering, lightweight rain jackets are great outer shells for outdoor activities like hiking or to wear around town with rain boots during those mid-season showers.
