Rollerblade was born from the discovery of an old inline skate in 1980 by two hockey-playing Minnesota brothers. They took inspiration from its design and decided to refine it, in order to create an ideal off-season hockey-training tool. They therefore began assembling the first Rollerblade skates in the basement of their parents' home.
Nordic and alpine skiers as well as hockey players were then quick to adapt these skates to their training regimens in the following years. Business grew during the early 80s, but the inline skate market was undeveloped and limited geographically. Marketing initiatives were therefore carried out in order to amplify interest in this sport and to produce international distribution. You know the aftermath of the brand's popularity!
